We Need to Talk About Adaptation

So much of the media looks at what needs to be done to mitigate the effects of climate change;  but what about how to cope with the effects of climate change? Unfortunately, even if the UK Government follow through on their promise to spend £2.5bn on climate action, it seems the world is still heading towards a 1.5-2°C warming at least.

This issue will seem less severe for us here in the UK, although we may see more extreme weather events and flooding, that is somewhat minimal compared to the effects felt by developing nations. Perhaps it is more difficult to connect with people miles away across the world who are far more vulnerable to the impacts of climate change?

The adaptation strategy against climate change puts the people first; recognising the reasons why such strategies are needed.

I had the opportunity to help to write a report on why we need to talk about climate change adaptation and how little environmental organisations have been discussing the matter, despite its increasing importance. We found that only 0.76% of articles written by the UK’s leading environmental organisations focus on climate change adaptation.  Please take the time to read our newly published report We Need To Talk About Adaptation and spread the word about the need for climate change adaptation hand in hand with climate change mitigation!

The report can also be found via this link.
